To study on the International Foundation Year or Extended International Foundation Year you need to meet the following requirements:

**If you do not need a Tier 4 visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English. If you are applying to study in the UK under the Tier 4 student route it may be necessary for you to submit a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as part of your visa application. Students joining the International Study Centre from September 2017 will not be required to take an IELTS test at the end of their foundation programme in order to progress to the University.
You will need to take an Academic IELTS for UKVI** test at the end of your foundation programme. You will need to achieve a minimum Academic IELTS for UKVI 6.5**, with no skill below 6.0, as well as the relevant academic grades, in order to progress to the University.
There is a very high level of competition for degree places at the University of Surrey. The number of students applying from within the UK and the European Union region are especially high. Therefore, we do not accept HEU* students. We strongly recommend that these students consider joining an A Level programme.
