Skills for success

During your studies at the International Study Centre and at the University, you will develop the skills and confidence you'll need to become a successful graduate, prepared for a rewarding career in your chosen specialism.

At the International Study Centre

At the University of Surrey International Study Centre, we include CareerAhead activities in our programmes to help prepare you for life beyond university. CareerAhead is designed to give you a head start in the competitive global graduate employment market.

Whilst studying at the International Study Centre, we will support you to develop key employability skills such as problem solving, teamwork, time management and communication. In addition, you will create a personal development plan to help you identify and work towards your goals for future success.

You'll also have the opportunity to build up work experience by taking up part-time employment or a work placement during your studies. Find out more about working rights as part your visa.

At the University

During your degree at the University of Surrey you will have access to the Employability and Careers Centre. Advisers will help to prepare you for your Professional Training placement and ensure you develop your employability skills ready for your future career.

"In my placement, I got to work in telecoms. It was really good as I got to work on live projects. The experience taught me a lot and helped boost my confidence. I know now I have a greater chance of being employed."
