Studying a Masters degree in the UK is a great way to develop your subject knowledge and improve your English language skills. Our Pre-Masters programme helps provide you with the skills to succeed in your English Masters degree, but if you don't have the required language skills for one of our pathway programmes, then one of these English language courses is for you.
Our dedicated tutors are here to give you the support you need to reach the IELTS requirement for your pathway programme. We offer a choice of programme lengths and intake dates, with your level of English determining how much English preparation you will need before beginning your academic programme.
This course will help you raise your English language skills to the level you need to start your Pre-Masters programme. It is delivered through Study Group's Virtual Study Centre.
You can take a 10 or 20 week Online Pre-Sessional English language programme. If you have have IELTS 5.0 (5.0 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need 10 weeks. If you have IELTS 4.5 (4.5 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need to complete our 20 week programme.
This course has two start dates, depending on when you begin your Pre-Master Programme.
You can take one or two semesters of English language preparation. If you have IELTS 5.0 (5.0 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need one semester of English for Pre-Masters. If you have IELTS 4.5 (4.5 in all bands) or equivalent, you will need to complete our two-semester English for Pre-Masters programme.
This course has two start dates, depending on when you begin your Pre-Masters Programme.
One-semester programme: September, before starting your academic programme in February, or June*, before starting your academic programme in September
Two-semester programme: June*, before starting your academic programme in February
English for Pre-Masters students at the University of Surrey International Study Centre will not need to take an additional IELTS test for progression to their Pre-Masters Programme. Students will be assessed on their Academic English Skills (AES) grade at the International Study Centre (they will be required to achieve a minimum of 40% in all skill areas).

Age: students are normally 21 years of age or older on the first day of their academic programme at the International Study Centre.
